Wrest Point Hotel Casino

The Wrest Point Hotel Casino was Australia's first legal casino, opening in the suburb of Sandy Bay in Hobart, Tasmania, on 10 February 1973.

The site was originally a hotel that was called the Wrest Point Riviera, built by Arthur Drysdale and opened in 1939. The hotel was later sold to Federal Hotels, who remain the present owners.

In the 1960s, The Federal Group attempted to secure Australia's first casino license. At the time, Tasmania's natural scenery and beauty were not widely known elsewhere, and as a result the state wasn't attracting many tourists. The company hoped that a casino would be the drawcard that would kickstart Tasmania's tourism industry.

John Haddad, one of the company's executives at the time, was assigned the role of getting a casino license. He met with then Tasmanian Premier Eric Reece and other state officials. A state referendum was held, and narrowly passed.

The development of the casino included the construction of the 17-storey hotel tower designed by renowned ground-breaking architect Sir Roy Grounds, a landmark that is nationally idenitified with Hobart, and to this day. the 64-metre octagonal tower is still the city's tallest building.

After the centre's opening in 1973 (after which it was known as Wrest Point Hotel Casino) the casino kickstarted the nation's casino industry, with 12 additional casinos opening across the country. This included a second Federal Group casino in Tasmania, the Country Club Resort, which opened in Launceston in 1982.

Since the opening of the casino, the state's tourism industry has boomed, as its management had hoped.

The building has been extended in recent years, including the conference centre which was opened in 1984, and the boardwalk in 1996.

Canberra Casino

Canberra Casino (or Casino Canberra) is a casino located in Civic in the central part of the Australian capital city of Canberra. It was the first legal casino to open in the city. The casino is relatively small compared with other casinos. It has blackjack, roulette and many other games. It opened on 29 July 1994, after vociferous opposition from Dr Hector Kinloch of the Residents Rally, although a temporary casino had been put in place before that at the National Convention Centre, which had opened in 1992.

The Casino has the only licence to operate gambling tables in the Australian Capital Territory. It is unlike many casinos in that it does not operate poker machines. The casino has in the past tried to lobby the government to allow poker machines in the casino, but failed due to the efforts of the gambling industry in Canberra's clubs, who fear the loss of revenue from poker machines there.

Sands Macau

Sands Macau opened in 2004, becoming the first of the Western-operated Macau hotels and casinos. Set amidst six acres of lush waterfront gardens, flanked by gold reflective windows, this opulent paradise’s motto is “privilege with passion.” Inside, showgirls in sequined bikinis and multicolored feathers prance and greet visitors. Towering above the slot machines, a 33-meter video screen flashes fireworks and ocean sunsets. Waiters in traditional Chinese peasant hats scurry between tables with cups of tea. A jazz band jams at the casino bar. At the buffet, gamblers feast royally on sushi, pasta and Indian curries. Behind wooden doors, big spenders enjoy quiet VIP rooms with plush maroon chairs and lofty windows.

Staying at Sands Macau is also about privilege. The 51 premium suites range from 1,000 to 8,000 square feet. The suites include in-room massage areas, in-room saunas, karaoke rooms, state-of-the-art entertainment centers with multiple plasma screen televisions and digital surround sound, private plunge pools, butler service, access to hundreds of premium teas, remote-controlled drapes, lighting, and audio-visual equipment, custom hand- woven carpets, custom-designed furnishings and lighting, and whirlpool Jacuzzis with panoramic views of Macao's Outer Harbour.

They are the Copa, an American-style steak house; Perola, featuring Macanese specialties; the Cantonese restaurant Golden Court, and the Ruby Room, where you can hear mellow, romantic live music whilst enjoying Shanghai cuisine. The 300-foot 888 Las Vegas Buffet in the gaming room features Thai, Indian and Japanese food, as well as six different regional Chinese cuisines. The Sands also operates Night Market dining in two parts – Moonlight Food Market Noodle Shop & Moonlight Food Market Dai Pai Dong, as well as the Xanadu Entertainment Bar. Sands Macau also offers a full service spa and salon, and a 24-hour "Tea Terrace" serving more than 200 quality teas.

Xanadu Entertainment Bar has shows from 3pm to 3:30 am, and “Glamour Girls” dancing on podiums from 8pm until1:30 am. The early show at the Xanadu (3pm to 9pm,) features traditional costumed Chinese dance, mixed with modern energetic dance performances, performed by groups like the Hua Nan Singing and Dance Group. From dusk to dawn, Sands Macao will make you feel privileged – with passion!

Landmark Hotel and Pharoah's Palace Casino

The Landmark Hotel & Pharaoh’s Palace Casino, a Macau luxury hotel that opened in 2003, was the brainchild of Macau politician David Chow. Mr. Chow, who was also the mastermind behind the Fisherman’s Wharf pier project, spent 11 years working in America as a high profile junket operator, and has brought his experience to bear on the development of Macau hotels and casinos.

Located in the city of Macau, the Landmark Hotel is a mere 10-minute walk from the ferry terminal and 15 minutes’ drive from the international airport. The 22-floor Macau hotel boasts 451 luxurious rooms and suites that are finely built and artistically designed, all with spacious bathroom and well-equipped facilities. There are nine restaurants to choose from on site, including the Kawa To Japanese Restaurant, the Royal Orchid Chinese Restaurant featuring Shanghaiese cuisine, the Landmark Bakery, and the Cave, which is a karaoke room and cocktail lounge. The Landmark Hotel also features a multi-functional ballroom, which is elegantly designed and equipped with a wide-range of meeting and banquet facilities for business travelers.

A vital part of this five-star Macau hotel’s success is its plush casinos. The Legend Club, known for opulence, shows how Mr. Chow made use of his intimate knowledge of the Macau gaming industry to create an exclusive establishment for VIP gamblers from mainland China. A club whose luxury has to be seen to be believed, the Legend Club has become synonymous with lavishness: such opulence can be found in San Simeon, the Hotel de Paris, or the London Ritz. To the disbelief of his critics, The Legend Club quickly became one of the most successful sub-licensed casinos in Macau: its fleet of limousines and luxurious custom-made super yachts underscored a brand that soon became legendary. both in Macau and overseas.

"The Legend Club was the culmination of several years' planning and development, during which no effort was spared to bring members the very best," says Mr. Chow. "We combined a genuinely sophisticated ambience with state-of-the-art sporting equipment, entertainment, and a wide selection of opulent gaming rooms." These gaming rooms are decorated in styles that range from a lush tropical rain forest to a sky-lit Italian palace and baroque French villa. Further to this, Mr. Chow transformed the second, third and fourth floors of the Landmark Hotel into the Egyptian-themed Pharaoh's Palace Casino, meaning that people no longer have far to travel to see the hieroglyphs of Egypt or the monument of King Tutankhamen. Pharaoh's Palace Casino, with 19 table games and 383 slots, has become one of the most lucrative casinos in Macau.

Guests of the Landmark Hotel Macau who prefer other recreation can enjoy the swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna and steam rooms, can schedule a massage or aerobics class, or work out in the gym. Macau golfers will love the Golf Virtual Reality Simulator, and the putting green and driving range. Kids will love the snooker room, and the children’s arcade and game room. Parents will love the babysitting service. Limousine and shuttle services are available to help you explore Macau, and much of the adventure is in walking distance from this Macao luxury hotel. Don’t forget to visit Fisherman’s Wharf for an exciting trip around the world’s port towns in one enchanting evening.

Grand Lisboa

The Grand Lisboa Hotel is a new version of an old Lisboa hotel. The updated Grand Lisboa Hotel has 200 tables, 300 guest rooms and 40 floors. The building of the Grand Lisboa is shaped like a giant bright yellow lotus flower, which is regarded as an official emblem of Macao Special Administrative Region. The rooms are an interesting mix of comfort and design, with the influences of China clearly present. Travelers looking for one of the best five-star hotels in Macau with a 24 hour casino need look no further than the Grand Lisboa Macau.

The Lisboa Casino & Hotel is more than just a jumble of great amenities; however, the Lisboa Casino & Hotel also features one of the largest casinos on the Cotai Strip. Among the many hotels in Macau, the Lisboa Casino & Hotel stands out as one of the most popular casinos. With the recent lift on the ban of foreign investors, gambling in Cotai has only increased, and casinos are growing in both number and size. Hotels in Macau are increasing including casinos as a part of their makeup.

The Grand Lisboa is generally considered to be a four-star hotel and is one of the most upscale hotels in Macau. The new Grand Lisboa hotel faces the old Lisboa hotel across the street, and the two are connected by an overhead walkway. The Grand Lisboa has the distinction of being Macau’s tallest building, though of course with all of the casino construction on the Cotai Strip it may not retain the distinction.

The Grand Lisboa Casino is in good company, however. The Galaxy Starworld, the Venetian Macau and the Wynn Macau are all located conveniently nearby. For any travelers who come to Macau looking to spend most of their time hopping from one casino to the next, the Grand Lisboa is a great choice. The 1.8 mile stretch of beach that makes up the Cotai Strip is getting quite a facelift, and the strip will soon be what many consider the Las Vegas of Asia. So, whether you come to Macau just to gamble or are hoping to take advantage of duty-free shopping or great restaurants, the Grand Lisboa Hotel is a great choice among accommodation in Macau.

Galaxy Waldo Casino Hotel

casino,Galaxy Waldo Casino Hotel
Hong Kong-owned Galaxy Resort and Casino opened its first Macau Galaxy resort on July 4, 2004 - becoming the 14th casino to operate in the former Portuguese enclave, which is reputed to boast the world's most profitable gaming industry. The Galaxy Waldo Casino-Hotel, known in Cantonese simply as "wah dou" ("Chinese capital"), was officially opened at 2:56 pm, when its director, Francis Lui Yiu-tung, triggered a noisy confetti explosion in its lobby. The ceremony included traditional Chinese dragon dances and the din of fire crackers, as well as Las Vegas-style revue dancers.

The relatively small casino, which initially only comprises 83 slot machines, 23 gaming tables for the general public and eight gaming tables for high-stakes gamblers, is the first of three projects by the company, which in 2002 won one of Macau China's three rival gaming concessions, in an international tender that terminated a casino-monopoly system originally set up in 1937.

Galaxy Macau will open another urban Macau hotel and casino called StarWorld (next to Wynn Macau's urban casino project). StarWorld will be housed in a 33-story building, with a casino podium comprising 100 VIP rooms, 140 gaming tables, and 300 slot machines. The casino podium, the first phase of the project will open in the 3rd quarter of 2005. The StarWorld resort will have 600 hotel rooms.

The third Galaxy casino Macau can anticipate is the tentatively termed Cotai Mega Resort, planned to be completed in four phases by 2009. Cotai is the Portuguese acronym for a land reclamation development area between Macau's two off-shore islands, Coloane and Taipa. Lui, who hails from the established Hong Kong Lui family of casino operators, said last week the Cotai Strip development was planned to include four "giant casinos" and five luxury hotels.

Galaxy Waldo Macau has provided its casino operations with 53 MindPlay Baccarat tables that offer proprietary security features designed to thwart cheating. The new technology can electronically track every card dealt and determine expected results. Unauthorized cards and other variances can be immediately detected, and reported to the surveillance department through a networked client interface.

Galaxy Waldo casino’s game design partners, Alliance Gaming, created the MindPlay baccarat system, which fully integrates into a standard card shoe and provides exceptional security. Staying within the local traditions of the game, the team did not want to change in any way the players' familiarity or comfort at the table. MP Baccarat is seamless in its integration, offering both the player and the house a reliable product to keep the game fair and secure.
Galaxy's concession agreement with the Macau government includes an independently managed sub-concession, held by Las Vegas gaming mogul Sheldon Adelson's The Venetian, which opened its first Macao casino, Sands Macau, in May of 2004. Their mutual development of the Cotai Strip could be the most significant contribution to Macau tourism and its economy so far.

MGM Grand Macau

MGM Grand Macau,Casino

The casino resort in Macau, which uses the MGM Grand Macau name, is the third largest American casino company behind the Bellagio and Mirage in Vegas. MGM Mirage made a joint deal with Pansy Ho Chiu-king, the daughter of Stanley Ho, whose company was controlling Macau gambling up to now.

The MGM Grand Macau hotel tower is a unique structure located on a prime waterfront site in Macau's central Nam Van gaming district. The Macau MGM is placed in the neighborhood of the planned Wynn Macau and the Lisboa Hotel and Casino, an area likely to become the first casino “strip” of Macau.

The 600-room MGM Macau resort hotel rises 28-floors into the sky and, as the shimmering glass of the building reflects the South China Sea, the shape of the building itself reflects the rolling swell of the ocean surf. Separated into three distinct horizontal segments as it rises, the exterior walls curve rhythmically, like waves in the ocean. The Macau MGM features a signature atrium, which is the focus of the resort.

The casino at MGM Macau has the potential to make the MGM Grand Macau the leading resort in Macau. Within the MGM Macau, there’s a 222,000 square foot split-level casino, with 300 table games and 1,000 slot machines. The property also includes a 1,500-seat theater, a 5,500-square foot nightclub, 13,500 square feet of meeting and convertible convention space including a 11,000 square foot ballroom, a 25,000-square-foot luxurious spa, and nine restaurants, including one on the roof with views of the city and the harbor.

Soon after Wynn Macau’s recent expansion plans became public, the MGM Grand Macau announced its own plans for expansion, only weeks after the project was publicly launched. The expansion added 72,000 square feet to the MGM Grand casino floor's 2nd level. The additional space doubled the number of slot machines and adds another 100 table games, which will make the Macau MGM the largest casino floor in the city!

The leadership of the MGM Grand Macau has the ability to deliver on its promises. The partnership between MGM Mirage and Pansy Ho brings together unparalleled experience in the US and Chinese gaming industries and other advantages in the Macau/Hong Kong/China marketplace. In addition to being the heir apparent to the Ho casino empire already in existence on Macau, Pansy Ho is the Chairman of Macau Tower Convention & Entertainment Center, and Executive Director of Air Macau Company Limited, Macau’s only licensed air carrier. With this dream team of local and international casino management, the MGM Grand Macau is sure to be a major player in the burgeoning fortunes of this developing Macau vacation destination.

Galaxy Starworld Macau

casinos

The Galaxy Starworld Macau is a hotel and casino set to open in late 2006 or early 2007. The Galaxy Starworld Macau will be opening in the old Galaxy Waldo Macau hotel. The Galaxy Starworld Macau will join the ranks of other casino hotels that are popping up all along the busy Cotai Strip in Macau. In 2002, a major monopoly on gambling in Macau was lifted, paving the way for foreign businesses and investors to try their luck at opening a casino or hotel on the Cotai Strip, which is being touted as the Las Vegas of Asia.

For travelers to Macau, or anyone vacationing in nearby China or Hong Kong looking for a break from the vast city, the Cotai Strip offers a chance to gamble and relax. Gambling laws in Macau make almost every form of gambling legal. Entrance to casinos is free but does require a passport, and photos are never allowed to be taken inside. Along with racetrack gambling and popular Chinese gambling games, casinos featuring traditional western gambling games are also gaining steam in Macau.

The Galaxy Starworld will be one of the latest additions to the Cotai Strip and the Macau hotel gambling scene. The Galaxy Starworld will be housed in the totally renovated Galaxy Waldo, a 33 story building with more than 550 rooms. The Galaxy Starworld will be located just east of the Wynn Macau, and has major plans for the gambling tables, hungry tiger machines (slots), and other types of gambling that will be housed in its enormous casino. Builders project that this Macau hotel casino will feature more than 300 gaming tables and more than 300 slot machines, among many other attractions.

Guests will also be able to stay at this Macau hotel, of course, and the billion dollar project will provide comfort and extreme elegance. While many of the hotels in Macau will look to attract foreign customers and travelers, many of the hotels in Macau will also be looking to attract Chinese businessmen. In the past, hotels in Macau have offered a chance to get away from the bustle of China’s larger cities and relax on an island paradise, that pull will only increase as the number and quality of casinos continues to increase.

Other hotels in Macau will stand along side the Galaxy Starworld to create a glitter of lights and fun along the 1.8 mile stretch that makes up the Cotai Strip. Whether you come to Macau for business or pleasure, the Galaxy Starworld and the entire Cotai Strip look to bring fun and excitement to the beach in Macau.

MGM Grand Las Vegas

MGM Grand Las Vegas

The MGM Grand Las Vegas is a luxury hotel casino located on the Las Vegas Strip, which opened as a Hollywood themed resort. The MGM Grand Las Vegas is the second largest hotel in the world and second largest hotel resort complex in the United States behind The Venetian.

Owned and operated by MGM Mirage, a publicly traded company, the 30-floor main building is 293 feet (89 m) high and features five outdoor pools, rivers, and waterfalls that cover 6.6 acres (2.7 hectare), a 380,000.sq.ft. (35,000 m2) convention center, the MGM Grand Garden Arena, CBS Television City, and the Grand Spa. It also houses numerous shops and night clubs, 16 restaurants, and the largest casino in Clark County, which occupies 171,500 sq.ft (15,930 m2).

The hotel rooms are located in several buildings including:

  • The main hotel building, with 5,044 rooms (4,293 rooms and 751 suites)

  • The three The Signature at MGM Grand towers each with 576 suites (designed by Bergman Walls Associates)

  • SKYLOFTS at MGM Grand with 51 lofts

  • The Mansion at MGM Grand with 29 villas

It is one of the three large hotels in Las Vegas that has a 13th floor.

Located on the Tropicana - Las Vegas Boulevard intersection, pedestrians are not allowed to cross at street level. Instead, the MGM Grand is linked by overhead pedestrian bridges to its neighboring casinos: to the south across Tropicana Avenue, the Tropicana, and to the west across the Strip, the New York-New York.

On February 23, 1993, MGM celebrated a "topping off" ceremony with the placement of the last panel of emerald green glass hoisted onto one of the 30-story hotel towers. A total of 5,005 green balloons were released, each containing a gift certificate valid for one complimentary stay in one of the rooms.

When the latest MGM Grand opened on December 18, 1993, it was owned by MGM Grand Inc. At that time it had an extensive Wizard of Oz theme, including the green "Emerald City" color of the building and the decorative use of Wizard of Oz memorabilia. After entering the casino's main entrance, you would find yourself in the Oz Casino and facing the "Emerald City". Dorothy, the Scarecrow, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion were seen in front of the city. The "Emerald City" attraction featured an elaborate yellow brick road walk through. Complete with a cornfield, an apple orchard, the haunted forest as well as audio-animatronic figures of the Scarecrow, Dorothy, the Wicked Witch of the West, the Tin Man and the Cowardly Lion. It would end at the door of the city, leading inside for a performance of "The Wizard's Secreats". The Oz Casino also featured the "Emerald City Gift Shop" and the "Oz Buffet". When the MGM Grand began its extensive refurbishment in 1996, the Oz Casino was the first to go. The Emerald City was completely demolished, the "Oz Buffet" became the "Grand Buffet", and the "Emerald City Gift Shop" was moved to a new shopping section of the casino. The store remained open until early 2003.

The MGM Grand was the home of the long-running production show EFX from 1995 until 2002.

Originally, the main entrance on the Strip was inside the mouth of a giant cartoon-like version of MGM's mascot, Leo the Lion, but this entrance feature was changed to a more traditional entrance; many Chinese gamblers avoided the casino or entered through the back entrance, due to the feng shui belief that entering the mouth of the lion was "bad luck." In 1998, a large bronze statue of Leo was added above the entrance to keep with the MGM Lion theme, while not scaring away their more superstitious guests. The statue weighs 50 tons, and at 45 feet (14m) tall, on a 25-foot pedestal, is the largest bronze statue in the U.S.

When the MGM Grand opened, the intention was to create the first true destination hotel in the Las Vegas area by including the MGM Grand Adventures Theme Park behind the casino. The plan was to make the Las Vegas Strip more family friendly by providing activities for children who were too young to be allowed to linger inside the casino. The theme park performed poorly, and did not reopen for the 2001 season. On December 5, 2002, MGM Mirage announced that the former theme park would be developed as a luxury condominium and hotel complex called The Signature.

A monorail was built to connect the MGM Grand to Bally's in 1995. The coming out party for the monorail on behalf of Bally's consisted of showgirls and guys from Jubilee helping the groups to the monorail. Characters from the Wizard of Oz greeted the groups on the MGM side. The track was later updated to became the southernmost section of the Las Vegas Monorail. The station was refurbished, the trains were replaced with Bombardier M-VI's, and the track was extended beyond the southern station to provide for track switching for the trains as well as a starting point for a potential future southern extension to the monorail line.

In 2000, in an attempt to appeal to a more "mature" clientèle, the hotel underwent a major renovation and almost all traces of the "Oz" theme were removed. The theme is now more of the Art Deco era of classic Hollywood and the hotel started billing itself as The City of Entertainment. More recently, the resort has used the phrase, "Maximum Vegas" referring to the vast amount of activities MGM Grand offers its guest.

On April 26, 2000, MGM opened a new satellite registration/hotel check-in center at the McCarran International Airport. This is the first of its kind opened by a hotel company at any United States airport.

In 2005, MGM opened the "West Wing," a renovation of the original Marina Hotel rooms.

Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino

Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino is a 39-story luxury hotel casino on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada. It is owned by MGM Mirage. The top five floors (floors 35–39) of the main hotel building are used by the four-star Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas. It is connected by the free Mandalay Bay Tram to its sister properties, Excalibur and Luxor.

Mandalay Bay has 3,309 hotel rooms and a casino of 135,000 sq ft (12,500 m2). The adjacent Mandalay Bay Convention Center has almost 1,000,000 sq ft (93,000 m2) of space. In addition, the Mandalay Bay Events Center hosts events including boxing, the UFC's MMA pay-per-views and concerts.

On December 31, 1996, the Hacienda was imploded to make way for Mandalay Bay.

The working title for the $950 million resort and casino was "Project Paradise", officially replaced with Mandalay Bay in 1998.

During construction engineers discovered vertical movements and particularly differential movements ('dishing') between the tower core and the wings. The tower core was sinking at a rate of 1/2 to 3/4 inches per week and the wings were sinking at a slower rate causing differential distortion between the column bays. If these movements were not stopped structural damage would occur. Construction was halted while a solution was developed and implemented. The solution proved to be the installation of micro-piles (formerly marketed as 'Pin Piles') filled with grout 200 feet deep below the structure each capped with a hydraulic jack to stabilize the structure at the desired vertical height to carry the weight. Since then, there have not been any reports of this problem recurring.

The gold coloring of the hotel is a result of gold leaf used on the windows.

The resort opened on March 2, 1999, with actors Dan Aykroyd, Jim Belushi, and John Goodman headlining a parade of Harley-Davidson motorcycles through Mandalay Bay's front doors to celebrate the grand opening.

The convention center was added in January 2003. When it opened, it was ranked as the fifth largest in the United States. It also offered the largest unobstructed ballroom in the country, at 100,000 ft² (9,000 m²).

In 2004 a new 43-story tower was opened with 1,120 suites, called THEhotel at Mandalay Bay. The hotel contains 1,117 one-bedroom suites, each at least 750 square feet (70 m2).

The Las Vegas Review Journal reports that a condo-hotel called THEplace is planned on land across from the hotel belonging to the Luxor.

New York-New York Hotel & Casino

New York-New York Hotel & Casino is a hotel and casino located on the Las Vegas Strip at 3790 Las Vegas Boulevard South, in Paradise, Nevada. It is one of the many casinos owned and operated by MGM Mirage.

New York-New York uses the New York City theme of its name in many ways. Its architecture creates an impression of the New York City skyline; the hotel includes several towers configured to resemble New York City skyscrapers, such as the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building. In front of the property is a pool representing New York Harbor, with a 150 ft (46 m) tall (half-scale) replica of the Statue of Liberty, a roller coaster, and replicas of the Brooklyn Bridge, Soldiers and Sailors Monument, the Whitney Museum of American Art, Ellis Island, and Grand Central Terminal, among other well-known structures.

The property opened on January 3, 1997. The project, which was first announced in 1994, was a joint venture of MGM Grand Inc. and Primadonna Resorts.
After the September 11, 2001 attacks, people spontaneously sent various tributes to New York-New York, especially T-shirts from police, fire and rescue departments around the country. These are displayed along the fence in front of the "Lady Liberty" replica. Eventually, they added a permanent memorial. The twin towers of the World Trade Center are not included in the skyscrapers depicted in its facade.

New York-New York at Las Vegas Strip

Within the resort, particular gambling areas, bars, eating areas and meeting rooms are named after New York City neighborhoods or landmarks. The main casino area, for example, is named after Central Park, while the "Village Eateries" food court is modeled after New York City's

Greenwich Village, even including real menus from New York Chinese takeout restaurants taped to the doors of the mock apartment buildings. New York-New York uses the trademarked slogan "The Greatest City in Las Vegas".

The resort is located on the northwest corner of the Tropicana - Las Vegas Boulevard intersection. At street level, pedestrians are blocked from crossing by concrete barriers. Instead, New York-New York is linked by overhead pedestrian bridges to its neighboring casinos to the south (the Excalibur, across Tropicana Avenue) and to the east (the MGM Grand, across the Strip).

On these days Crown is closed from 4am and reopens 12 noon. It was originally founded, owned and run by Lloyd Williams until the Packer takeover by PBL in 1999. Crown Casino is the largest casino in the southern hemisphere, has a license for 350 table games and 2500 poker machines.

On Friday January 30 2009 The crown casino and entertainment complex was evacuated due to a blackout as a result of a 3 day heatwave. The blackout lasted from 6:30pm till about midnight. Gamers were refunded cash which they had entered into poker machine before the blackout in the following days

Amongst other games, Crown provides the 6 main casino games of Blackjack, Craps, Pai Gow, Poker, Baccarat and Roulette but it was also the founder of an electronic version of Roulette known as Rapid Roulette. Rapid Roulette has been in use for several years, and recently Rapid Bigwheel and Rapid Sic-bo have been developed.

As well as Caribbean Stud Poker on the main gaming floor, Crown has also long offered varieties of poker including Texas Hold'em. The Crown Poker Room has recently grown with the increased popularity of poker and now encompasses a large separate space in the Crown basement known as the Poker Room.

Plaza Hotel and Casino

Opened on July 2, 1971 with the owners including local businessmen: Sam Boyd, Howard Cannon and Jackie Gaughan. Its original name was Union Plaza, in reference to the Union Pacific railroad station that originally stood at the site.

Before the discontinuation of the Desert Wind train route on May 10, 1997, Amtrak made its Las Vegas, Nevada station stop at the Plaza. The station and ticket windows were directly connected to the hotel. It was the only train station in the United States located in a casino.

Barrick Gaming Corporation acquired the Plaza from Jackie Gaughan and in late 2005 later ceded operation to majority owner Tamares Group. On July 1, 2005 after Tamares took control of the Plaza mayor Oscar Goodman made his opinions clear in an article in the Las Vegas Press. He said If I had my druthers, I would like to have somebody in place to discuss imploding the Plaza. [1] He was referring to his desire to see the Plaza replaced with new construction that would create a scenic entrance to Union Park.

During its ownership by Barrick Gaming Corporation, D.W. Barrick's good friend, Larry Manetti hosted a celebrity brunch every Sunday, featuring such guests as Pat Morita and Steve Rossi. He also owned Manetti's in The Plaza. When Barrick sold its interest in the hotel to the Tamares Group, Manetti closed his restaurant and severed his relationship with the hotel. The Plaza's famed glass-domed Center Stage Restaurant has been converted into a sports bar called The Dome. There are 16 televisions screens and people are able to place bets in The Dome.

Bally's Las Vegas

Bally's Las Vegas is a hotel and casino located on the Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada which is owned and operated by Harrah's Entertainment. The hotel has 2,814 rooms that are 450 sq ft (42 m2) or larger and over 175,000 sq ft (16,300 m2) of banquet and meeting space. The casino occupies 67,000 sq ft (6,200 m2).

One of the signature features of the hotel is the neon lighting wrapped around the covered moving sidewalk that brings guests from Las Vegas Boulevard to the entrance of the casino while old hits from the Rat Pack are pumped out. The resort has a large shopping area a floor below its gaming level, including several restaurants and there is a Las Vegas Monorail station at the rear of the property. Bally's is home for the long-running production show Jubilee! which opened in 1981.

The 43 acres site was first occupied by the Bonanza Hotel and Casino which opened in July 1963. It was later renamed the New Bonanza Hotel and Casino shortly before construction on the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino, owned by Kirk Kerkorian, began. It opened in 1973 with 2,084 rooms and was the largest hotel in the world at that time. The hotel had a Los Angeles movie theme when it opened.

On November 21, 1980, it suffered a fire in the casino that spread through the hotel, resulting in a death toll of 87 guests and employees. The fire was, and still remains, the largest disaster in Nevada history in terms of loss of life and a major reform of city fire safety, which are now among the strictest in the United States. The facility was repaired and refurbished in eight months.

The hotel was sold in 1985 to Bally Entertainment Corporation and the property's name was changed to Bally's(the MGM Grand name was transferred to the former Marina Hotel, now known as MGM Grand Las Vegas). Bally Entertainment Corporation was purchased in 1995 by Hilton Hotels Corporation whose casino resorts division was subsequently spun off and became Caesars Entertainment in 2003. The Stratosphere Las Vegas

The Stratosphere Las Vegas is a landmark tower, hotel, and casino located on the Las Vegas Strip in Las Vegas, Nevada. It is owned by Whitehall Street Real Estate Funds, an affiliate of Goldman, Sachs & Co who purchased American Casino & Entertainment Properties which includes the Stratosphere along with three other properties.

In the early 1990s, The Stratosphere was conceived by Bob Stupak to replace his Vegas World casino. At the conception of the project, one of the planned rides was to be a giant ape that would carry riders up and down one of the tower's columns. Original plans called for the Stratosphere to have a height exceeding that of the CN Tower (1815 ft/553 m), making it the world's tallest freestanding structure at that time. However, due to possible interference with nearby McCarran International Airport and any possible flights that come through Las Vegas, the tower's proposed height shrank multiple times until it stopped at its present height.

Some of the casino games include slot machines, video poker and European roulette. The Stratosphere has inherited some unusual variations on casino games from its Vegas World predecessor, such as "crapless craps" and "double-exposure blackjack", which came with a number of twists. For example, the variation on blackjack involved the dealers showing both of their cards, which appeared to greatly favor the player. However the rules also were changed that the house wins in the event of a push, which meant that statistically the game favored the casino more than in normal blackjack. This type of blackjack is popular in Atlantic City, but rarely seen in Las Vegas.

  • Caribbean Stud Poker
  • Crapless Craps
